Painted en plein air in May near the Japanese Pavilion at the Berlin Botanical Garden, Mai captures the exuberant awakening of nature. Everything seems to spring to life at once, reaching towards one another and embracing in an almost dance-like movement. The landscape becomes an expression of vitality, interconnectedness, and the energy of new beginnings.

The painting moves largely beyond representation. Reduced to essential forms and luminous color harmonies, it unfolds as a rhythmic, almost musical composition. Sweeping transitions and interlocking fields of color dissolve the boundaries between individual elements.

Recurring flesh-toned hues evoke the human body and the shared origins of all life. Nature is thus experienced not as something separate from humanity, but as a living whole that encompasses us and draws us into its dynamic movement.
